Living Room

The Solution:

The first step was to tone down the stark white walls to create warmth by changing the color to a light cream on the walls and ceiling. Before painting began, simple panel molding was added to both walls to enhance the traditional design of this space. Light cream velvet blackout drapes were added to compliment the walls, mounted high to draw your eye to the coffered ceiling. These two updates immediately changed the feel of the space.

Next, working with the gorgeous charcoal velvet sofas, complimentary colors and textures were created through two caramel colored fabric and wood side chairs and a burl wood table added in the center of the space. A large cream area rug with a dark grey banding was added to ground the furniture and accessories in the space.

Antique brass and black were chosen throughout the space, from the Chandelier, floor lamp, curtain rods, side table, and candle holders on the mantle, to touches of nature with prints for the wall, faux real touch roses, a garden statue of a girl with birds for the mantle, and other accessories such as a light caramel throw and round pillow, and updated antique brass outlet covers. One of their books from the adjacent library was placed on the coffee table next to a 3 wick candle (citrus sandalwood) in an amber jar on a black metal tray.

Living Room - Formal Space with Fireplace

The Need:

Create a warm, inviting space and add character to match the elegant white and grey Carrera marble fireplace and coffered ceilings already in the home and utilize the two charcoal velvet sofas purchased for this space. Add warmth, maintain elegance, and make the space cozy and welcoming for guests and for the family to enjoy.

Reuse and Upcycling of Materials:
Being sustainably conscious, we always recommend saving items that can be repurposed within the home. In this case, the client had purchased the two sofas in advance. They owned the black metal tray which was in their library and the antique brass side table in their guest room, which I was able to utilize in this space.
